Vienna Science and Technology Fund
The Vienna Science and Technology Fund (WWTF) is a non-profit organisation established to promote science and research in Vienna. The Fund's funding tools and methods are designed to strengthen top research in Vienna. Some of its calls are explicitly directed at promoting promising young scientists.
The WWTF obtains its funds from the "Privatstiftung zur Verwaltung von Anteilsrechten", a private foundation in the financial sector which was set up in order to manage equity interests. From 2003-2010 WWTF has dedicated more than 60 million Euro to top-quality basic research in Vienna, funding 100 larger research projects and six Vienna Science Chairs.
The Vienna Science and Technology Fund currently runs thematic programmes in the Life Sciences, Applied Mathematics, Information and Communication Technology, and Science for Creative Industries. For the City of Vienna, WWTF manages programmes for University Infrastructure, Social Sciences and Humanities, and the Vienna Research Groups for Young Investigators.
