After attending a mathematically oriented high school (BRG), Bernhard Rengs turned to the Vienna University of Technology, because he had a keen interest in computer sciences. In his studies he concentrated on four partially different fields: business informatics, web engineering, game theory and artificial intelligence. In the end the latter two won out and he started to work on computer simulations of social processes. After a detour to the private sector (software development), he was called back to the Vienna University of Technology, where he participated in a research project for the OeNB. Since finishing his PhD, he works there as an assistant professor. Bernhard Rengs specialized in agent-based computational economics/sociology, though he tries to keep an eye on some of his other fields of interest, like information visualization for example. Since his daughter's birth last year, he tries to spread his time more fairly between his family and his professional interests.
