Damla Olcaydu is a MD PhD student at the Medical University of Vienna, Austria, conducting her research work at the Research Center for Molecular Medicine (CeMM) of the Austrian Academy of Sciences. She studied medicine and graduated in April 2008 at the Medical University of Vienna.

At first she had the opportunity to gain research experience at the Institute for Thrombosis Research and Vascular Biology with Prof. Bernd R. Binder. Later she joined the CeMM and focused her scientific work in particular on the genomics of myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN). She conducted her thesis at the laboratory of Robert Kralovics at the CeMM and the Department of Internal Medicine I, Division of Hematology and Hemostaseology of the Medical University of Vienna, investigating the genetic basis of thrombosis in MPN.

Since April 2008 she is enrolled as a PhD student and continuing her work with a special interest in the role of inherited and acquired genetic factors in the pathogenesis of MPN. After completing her PhD studies, she is planning to start specialization in internal medicine and hematology while aiming to further continue research work in this field.
