After having graduated from secondary school with a bilingual diploma (German-French) in 1999, Marie Caroline Oetzel started studying Information Systems at the University of Mannheim. During her study she also worked for different companies and university institutes as a software engineer and technical consultant. Having specialized in data base management systems, security engineering and artificial intelligence, she graduated from university in 2005.

In autumn of 2005 she started working for ICW AG in Walldorf, first as a trainee and then as a technical product manager. Her main responsibilities were the conceptualization of security architectures for smart card and web applications. She stayed for more than four years with the company and during the last year she was lead product manager and was responsible for two teams, product management and technical writing. At the end of 2009 she decided to start her doctorate and she became a research and teaching assistant at the Institute for Management Information Systems at Vienna University of Economics and Business. Her current research interests are RFID and Privacy, Security Engineering and Ethics in Information Systems Design.
