Karin Föttinger was born in Braunau in 1976 and grew up in Upper Austria. In 1995 she moved to Vienna, where she studied Technical Chemistry at TU Vienna. During her studies she always had a strong interest and focus on Physical Chemistry, so she decided to do my diploma and PhD in the field of heterogeneous catalysis under supervision of Prof. Vinek. After obtaining her PhD in 2005 she received a fellowship from the Max Planck Society and spent a 2 years Postdoc in the group of Prof. Rupprechter. During all this time she enjoyed a lot academic research and working at the university. Currently, she is university assistant at TU Vienna, where she builds up her own research group and works on her habilitation. In the last years she spent several months as guest scientist at ETH Zurich and at the University of Tarragona.
