Susanne Diesner was born in Waidhofen/Thaya, Austria, in 1983, and graduated to Doctor of Medicine at the Medical University of Vienna (MUV) in June 2008. She started her scientific career as diploma student at the Department of Pathophysiology at the MUV in 2005. Since that time she has been working in the field of allergology with special focus on food allergy induction and novel treatment strategies against type I allergy. In October 2008, she enrolled in the PhD program Immunology and started to work on her PhD thesis Toll Like Receptors and Pathogen Recognition during Early Life at the Department of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine at the MUV. From April until June 2009 she spent 3 months abroad as a research fellow at the National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, USA, in the group of Prof. Rivera analyzing the influence of sphingolipids on the development of food allergy. In October 2009, she was elected to the board of the Young Scientist Association of the MUV.
